Sheffield Wednesday ticket fundraising campaign smashes through £20,000 barrier

A fundraising campaign set up by the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust as recently as Friday has already generated more than £20,000 via donations.

A fundraising campaign launched by the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust to help fans facing financial hardship attend matches has raised more than £20,000 in less than 48 hours.

The Trust, who have done some fabulous work over the last 12 months, launched the fundraiser on Friday, inviting people to donate however much they wish to in a quest to try and help Wednesdayites who may be unable to afford the cost of a season ticket or a single match ticket.

In addition to the funds raised going towards the costs of season tickets and match tickets, the Trust confirmed ‘any remaining funds will be used to provide mascot experiences and Sheffield Wednesday shirts for children who may otherwise miss out on these special opportunities’.

Having raised £16,500 by 11am on Saturday morning, the figure, has now smashed through the £20,000 barrier just 24 hours later. At the time of this article being published at 11am on Sunday morning, the total raised stood at £20,345.

Tom Costin, one of the leading figures within the Arise Capital Partners consortium that purchased the Owls at the very beginning of May, donated £1,867 on Friday - and that figure has been matched by another individual.

In a statement issued on Saturday morning, confirming the amount raised, at that juncture, had reached £16,500, the Trust said: “£16,500 raised in less than 24 hours. Absolutely incredible.

“Every donation, every share, every message of support is helping us create opportunities for people who otherwise might miss out on being part of Sheffield Wednesday. But we’re only just getting started.

“If you’ve been thinking about donating, now is the time. Whether it’s £1 or £1,867, every contribution moves us closer to changing someone’s season. Let’s see how far we can take it.”

Following a distressing 12 months for everyone connected with the Owls, supporters, staff and players alike are all looking forward to next season following the completion of Arise’s takeover. More than 17,000 season tickets have been sold, meaning Wednesday are on course to achieve chief executive David Bruce’s ambition of selling north of 21,000.
