Sheffield Wednesday's League One rivals 'interested' in Sheffield United striker as Oxford ace 'wanted'
All the very latest League One transfer rumours ahead of the 2026/27 campaign getting underway next month.
Following a flurry of new arrivals last week, it has been a sea of calm at Sheffield Wednesday this week.
The Owls secured their fourth signing in five days last Saturday, re-signing goalkeeper Joe Lumley from Bristol City and taking their tally of new recruits this summer to eight.
However, Wednesday’s fast start to the summer has slowed this week, but that is not to say that hard work is not continuing behind the scenes as the club looks to strengthen manager Henrik Pedersen’s squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Elsewhere in League One, deals continue to be finalised, with Leicester City, on Thursday, confirming the arrivals of goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and attacker Conor Chaplin. With that in mind, here are some of the latest transfer rumours concerning the Owls’ League One rivals...
Foxes ‘interested’ in Oné
Leicester are ‘interested’ in signing Sheffield United striker Ryan Oné, according to journalist Ben Jacobs. Following relegation from the Championship last term, the Foxes, like Wednesday, are in the process of attempting to rebuild their squad ahead of the upcoming League One campaign.
After strengthening their attacking options with the signing of former Ipswich Town ace Chaplin, the King Power Stadium outfit are now said to be keen on signing Oné, although the report does not state if it is a loan deal of a permanent deal they are interested in.
Oné, who is highly rated by the Blades, spent the second half of last season on loan at Lincoln City, scoring five goals in 16 appearances to help them win the League One title. He is being given the opportunity to impress in S2 this pre-season, meaning it remains to be seen how big a role he could have to play in United manager Chris Wilder’s plans ahead of the new season.
Under contract at Bramall Lane until 2029, it has been reported that Rangers are also ‘interested’ in the Scotland youth international. Oné started his career at Hamilton Academical before moving to South Yorkshire in September 2023.
Oxford face Mills ‘interest’
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Preston North End are ‘lining up a move’ for Oxford United winger Stanley Mills. The 22-year-old joined the U’s from Everton in January 2025 for an undisclosed fee after previously spending time on loan at the Kassam Stadium.

Since returning to Oxfordshire on a permanent deal, he has made 57 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and registering four assists. Having won both the Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season awards last term, Mills was a standout performer despite the U’s being relegated to League One.
As well as being linked with Preston, Mills is reportedly attracting interest from ‘several other’ Championship clubs. Oxford, who appointed Aaron Ramsey as their head coach last month after making the surprise decision to sack former boss Matt Bloomfield, are under pressure to keep hold of their key players after being hit with a temporary transfer embargo last week.
The club are currently restricted from registering any new players until their financial issues are resolved, with the U’s stating that they will not be able to sign anyone until the January transfer window. Mills remains under contract until 2028.
