David Storch explains why David Bruce is the 'perfect fit' for key Sheffield Wednesday role
David Bruce was installed as Sheffield Wednesday’s new CEO following Arise Capital Partners’ takeover earlier this month.
Sheffield Wednesday chairman David Storch has described chief executive David Bruce as the “perfect fit” for the role following his appointment earlier this month, admitting he owes great credit to Asher Simons for introducing him to the former Sunderland man.
Bruce was unveiled as Wednesday’s first chief executive since 2019 on the pitch at Hillsborough ahead of the 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on the final day of the season just over three weeks ago.
Bruce has arrived at Hillsborough following a period at Sunderland as chief brand and commercial officer and later chief business officer. He has brought a wealth of experience to S6 and has already made a massively positive impression on both staff and supporters.
The former MLS chief marketing officer has been tasked with overseeing day-to-day operations at Hillsborough, meaning he is playing a leading role in the changes the club hopes to implement this summer and beyond. He admitted earlier this week that he has already formed great relationships with David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin, who make up the Arise Capital Partners consortium.
Bruce admitted that David Storch is often calling him with ideas and suggestions and that they speak regularly. The latter has now admitted that he is becoming “more and more impressed” with Bruce.
Storch, posting on X (formerly Twitter), said: “And I only get more and more impressed with every day that goes by! David Bruce is the perfect fit for CEO of our fabulous club.
“He brings excellence to the club every day. Simons, who was also introduced on the pitch by David Storch ahead of the win over West Brom, is the co-founder and president of CAA Executive Search, a company which connects organisations with best-in-class leaders who drive transformation and growth.
Simons has spent his entire career in the sports, media, and entertainment industry. He previously served as the Head of the North American Sports Practice for a top-five major global executive search firm.
