GM on experience
That’s the example you saw with Aden against Birmingham. He didn’t even train.
I knew he was at a level of fitness to cope with that but that experience of managing himself through a game without proper preparation, that’s where experience does that.
GM on transfers in the window
We have players with Championship nous. I’ve said it before; a good squad has a blend. We need experience and players coming into their prime years.
The club hasn’t had that staggering for a long time and we need to move it into that way. We’ve got that mix now and that’s how it should be.
With the pandemic hitting and being in that plan, we’ve done well with that and the first part of that transition.
GM on next three matches
They’re all pivotal. We’re doing well, we’re trying to fight for points and we have to maintain that for the whole period.
We don’t look too far ahead, it’s this game. We have to make sure we’re the team that does the most to get the three points.
Of course the first target is to get out of the minus, hopefully by the end of this period we’re out of it, but it’s one game at a time really.
GM on subbing Alex Hunt
It was a tactical decision, that’s it. He’s been fantastic. I’ve spoken to him, he’s a young player and there are certain situations he finds himself in and how he deals with that is to be consistent.
These are part of the decisions he’ll face. He’s got a big future.
GM on squad depth
"It’s going to be important across the whole season, not just this period.
“In this period right now, it’s a case of assessing it to see how much freshness there is and it’s about picking the right players to win the game..”
On Nathan Jones
"He sets his teams up well, they are agressive and we are going to have to match that."
On non-league and the football pyramid
"English football has the best structure in the world and it’s something we should be proud of. Think of the amount of players who have worked their way up through those leagues. We have to protect it with everything we’ve got. And that’s not even talking about the community aspect
"We need to protect it and the only ones who can do that is the authorities.
"The government, premier league the EFL, FA we need all the hekp we can to sustain that pyramid. It’s dangerous times and it needs desperate help.
“The perception of football it’s awash with money. It’s not. It’s more than football, it’s communities and heritage and it’s in grave danger.”
On helping fans
"If I’m honest with you, everythijng since then, I’m a bit lost with it. We are all the same trying to ork it all out. Some of it feels unnecessary.
“People are going to be suffering financially and mentally and if we can give a little bit of joy and get results if we can be a distraction for poeple for that hour and a half then that’s what we will try to do. Three points and a good feeling for their football club.”
On moving into Tier 3
“Our protocols have remained the same since lockdown. Nothing changes. It doesn’t directly effect anything we’ve been doing.”
