Sheffield Wednesday news LIVE: Garry Monk press conference
Last updated: Friday, 26 June, 2020, 08:35
- Garry Monk will speak to the media for the first time since this week’s contracts announcement
- It was revealed that Steven Fletcher, Morgan Fox and Fernando Forestieri had declined to stay on
Monk on EFL charge
"Regardless of EFL situation we have to be more positive than the situation behind us. We’re playing a lot of the teams ahead of us on this run and we’ve got to go for those. We’ve shown what we can do against the teams that are above us."
"That experience [of Brimingham] lends to certain situations. All that around headlines and things in the media, it makes it easier to deal with things like that. But we have to focus as much about football as we can and our performance. Anything outside of that we'll deal with. I've spoken to the players about it and we want to finish the season as well as we can."
Monk on starting XI
"Everyone was making a big thing out of that first starting 11 against Forest but that team will not be the same team in the next game.
Teams that manage their squad best will get the most out of this period."
Monk on Fletcher and Fox
“We would have preferred to finish it in a more normal way. We have to accept the players’ decisions. We wish them all the best and thank them for the service they have given us”
This morning's news
The Star understands that out-on-loan Sheffield Wednesday pair Matt Penney and Joost van Aken will NOT be able to return to the Owls’ squad for the season run-in, despite reports to the contrary.
Garry Monk - A man with answers?
Garry Monk will be speaking with the media for the first time since the big contract news earlier this week, and there’s going to be a lot that people want to know.
Have Wednesday given up hope on Steven Fletcher and Morgan Fox? Have extended loan deals been finalised yet? Has anything been sorted yet beyond the current campaign? Who can play on Sunday?
Meanwhile, the case with the EFL got underway earlier this week, and fans are desperate for answers.
How’s the case going? Will there be a points deduction? Will punishment - if guilty - come this season or next? Is there an end in sight?
The Star will be there to chat to the Wednesday gaffer from 8.30 this morning, and there could be some big news to come in the hour or so that follows!
