Sheffield Wednesday's League One rivals 'closing in' on free agent as Plymouth Argyle 'keen' on defender

All the very latest League One transfer rumours as the countdown to the start of the 2026/27 season continues.

Sheffield Wednesday have been among the busiest clubs in the country so far this summer, bringing in eight new faces to strengthen manager Henrik Pedersen’s squad.

The Owls, who face Hallam FC in their second pre-season friendly of the summer on Tuesday evening, increased their tally of new arrivals on Saturday with the signing of goalkeeper Joe Lumley. He became the Owls’ fourth signing in the space of just five days.

Following relegation from the Championship last term, a huge squad rebuild is underway at Hillsborough. It is not unrealistic to suggest that at least another ten players could be recruited before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Clubs across League One are equally keen to add to their squads ahead of the campaign getting underway on August 15. With that in mind, here are some of the latest transfer rumours concerning Wednesday’s League One rivals...

Chaplin ‘set’ for Leicester move

Leicester City are ‘closing in’ on the signing of former Ipswich Town attacker Conor Chaplin, according to The Telegraph’s John Percy. The 29-year-old, who is a versatile operator, is said to have undergone a medical on Monday.

Chaplin is currently available on a free transfer after being released by Ipswich at the end of last season. The former Barnsley man spent five years at Portman Road but spent last season on loan at Portsmouth.

Chaplin, who can play as both an attacking midfielder and a striker, made 37 appearances for John Mousinho’s side, scoring two goals. That was his second stint at Fratton Park during his career.

The former Coventry City man was a popular figure throughout his time at Ipswich, scoring 55 goals in 174 appearances. He helped them clinch back-to-back promotions in 2022/23 and 2023/24, playing a key role in their sharp rise from League One to the Premier League.

Argyle ‘monitoring’ defender

According to Sky Sports, Plymouth Argyle are ‘keen’ on signing Aberdeen left-back Mitchel Frame. The 20-year-old, who joined Aberdeen from Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic in August last year, is also attracting attention from overseas.

It is reported BK Hacken and Rakow Czestochowa have ‘made enquiries’ about signing him, with the Dons are ‘considering the best option for him this season’, suggesting they are planning to let him head out on loan.

Plymouth are described as being ‘keen’ on the left-back and are ‘monitoring his situation’. Frame made 14 appearances in his first season at Pittodrie, scoring one goal. He made just one appearance for Celtic prior to his move to Aberdeen.

Frame has three years remaining on his Aberdeen contract.
