Dominic Iorfa offered League Two contract following Sheffield Wednesday exit
Dominic Iorfa has been offered the opportunity to join Rotherham United after being released by Sheffield Wednesday during the summer.
Rotherham United have offered a contract to former Sheffield Wednesday defender Dominic Iorfa, head coach Alex Bruce has confirmed.
The 31-year-old has recently spent time training with the League Two Millers after leaving Hillsborough at the end of last season. Iorfa spent seven-and-a-half years with the Owls, racking up more than 220 appearances for the club.
The towering defender, who made 34 Championship appearances for Wednesday last season, is understood to live in Rotherham, making the prospect of a move to the AESSEAL New York Stadium potentially appealing to the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man.
After spending time training with the Millers at their Roundwood training base, boss Bruce has confirmed that they are hoping to get an answer from the defender in the coming days.
"It's not just about finances, it's opportunity, it's location,” Bruce told the Rotherham Advertiser. "It's about, where is he settled? Where's do his kids go to school? All these kind of things come into the process of it.
"Is he a player who would help us? Of course he is. He's played at a higher level all of his career. He's a very, very good player. You can see that when he trains with us.
“Would he add to the group? Yeah, of course. He’s spent a long time at a higher lever If we can bring him in it would be a big addition to us. But we'll have to wait and see.
"It's his call over the next couple of days. He's going to make a decision on it and then we'll take it from there.”
Should Iorfa turn down Rotherham’s offer, Bruce has not dismissed the prospect of the Millers looking elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.
He added: “Only if the right individual is available. If he is, then we will look to try to do it.
“I don't think I'll be pushed into doing something if it's not the right individual, the right character, the right fit for us. I'm delighted with the business that we've done in such a short period of time. If we are going to add one, it needs to be the right one."
