Sheffield Wednesday’s injury crisis worsens with two more ruled out ahead of Birmingham City clash
Sheffield Wednesday’s extensive injury crisis is showing no signs of improving anytime soon.
Sheffield Wednesday are set to be without two more players when they take on Birmingham City later this evening.
The Owls are in dire straits at the moment, with a whole host of players out of action due to injury, and now they’ll go up against the Blues with an even more threadbare squad at Henrik Pedersen’s disposal.
As also reported by BBC Radio Sheffield, The Star understands that – following a scan after the Portsmouth game – Sean Fusire faces around six weeks out with a hamstring injury, while talented youngster, Yisa Alao, could be out for the next few games due to a problem that he’s picked up.
The pair join Pierce Charles, Di’Shon Bernard, Max Lowe, Dominic Iorfa, Liam Cooper, Gui Siqueira, Ernie Weaver, Bruno Fernandes, Nathaniel Chalobah, Ike Ugbo, Olaf Kobacki and George Brown on the club’s list of injured players – furthering the crisis over at Hillsborough.
Owls dealt double blow
With both players having started against Pompey, the injuries to Fusire and Alao will give Pedersen a fresh headache as his side go up against Birmingham. Wednesday were already up against it as they look to try and avoid setting a new club record of 21 league games without victory – and that task has now got even tougher.
Alao’s injury also begs questions over what will happen with his immediate future after bids came in from Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, with a lay-off that possibly halts any sort of immediate sale.
Wednesday have other players of interest to clubs elsewhere, and Pedersen will be desperate to not see his side depleted even more than it already is.
