Huddersfield Town midfielder handed ban following Sheffield Wednesday incident

Huddersfield Town skipper Ryan Ledson has been handed a three-match ban following in incident in the Terriers’ recent draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Football Association (FA) has confirmed that Huddersfield Town midfielder Ryan Ledson has been handed a three-match ban and fined £7,000 after being charged with misconduct following his side’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month.

The Owls, who face Doncaster Rovers on Saturday afternoon, snatched a point in dramatic circumstances at the Accu Stadium after centre-back Liam Cooper was on the receiving end of a high foot inside the penalty area deep into added time.

Jamal Lowe stepped up to take the resulting penalty, finding the top corner to earn Wednesday an unlikely point after they had trailed 2-0 with just minutes of normal time remaining.

The late drama saw tensions boil over after the final whistle, with Terriers boss Martin Drury gesturing towards the crowd to express his displeasure at the decision that had given Wednesday the opportunity to snatch a point.

Last Thursday, the FA confirmed that Ledson, who did not feature against the Owls because of an elbow injury, had been charged with misconduct. The governing body has now confirmed that he has been handed a three-match ban and a hefty £7,000 fine.

A statement said: “Huddersfield Town’s Ryan Ledson has been sanctioned for misconduct at the EFL League One game against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday 10 October. It was alleged that the player used abuse and/or insulting words towards a match official around the tunnel area at half-time and also after the final whistle.

“Ryan Ledson admitted the charge. An independent Regulatory Commission has imposed a three-match ban and £7,000 fine and its written reasons will be published in due course.”

Ledson, who joined Huddersfield Town in May 2025, has not featured since the Terriers’ 0-0 draw with Mansfield Town on September 12. However, he returned to training earlier this week, raising the possibility that he could return to action this weekend.

The news of his three-match ban means he will now miss the promotion hopefuls’ upcoming clashes with Wigan Athletic, Bradford City and Luton Town.
