Harry Gray makes England U19s debut as former Sheffield Wednesday duo star in dramatic victory
Sheffield Wednesday youngster Harry Gray secured his first appearance for England’s Under-19s.
Sheffield Wednesday loanee Harry Gray made his debut for England Under-19s on Friday night, helping them seal a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland at St George’s Park.
The Three Lions youngsters got the job done via a second half winner from exciting Arsenal youngster Max Dowman, who scored the only goal of the game with 20 minutes left on the clock.
Gray, who joined Wednesday on loan from Leeds United in July, was introduced nine minutes before Dowman netted the winner, stepping off the bench to replace FC Köln winger Reigan Heskey, who is the younger brother of Gray’s Owls teammate Jaden.
The 17-year-old, who has made six appearances for Wednesday so far this season, will be hoping to add to the 29 minutes he earned against Ireland as the international break unfolds, with the England youngsters scheduled to play another three matches before domestic action resumes.
Ben Futcher’s side will now travel to Marbella, Spain, where they will face Norway, the USA and Belgium as they continue to prepare for their European Championship qualifiers later this year.
After facing Norway on Tuesday afternoon, the Three Lions youngsters will then lock horns with the USA next Friday before bringing their mini European tour to an end with a clash against Belgium on Monday, October 5.

Meanwhile, fellow Wednesday loanee Kieran Morrison was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland sealed a dramatic 1-0 win over Georgia in their UEFA Nations League opener.
Michael O’Neill’s side came out on top in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi after former Wednesday loanee Shea Charles scored a 99th-minute winner.
The now-Fulham midfielder scooped the ball home from close range after his brother and former Wednesday goalkeeper, Pierce, had saved a penalty to deny Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia earlier in the second half.
Morrison will be hoping to make his competitive debut for his country when they host Hungary in their second Nations League outing at Windsor Park on Monday night.
