Sheffield Wednesday duo earn EFL recognition after eye-catching displays vs AFC Wimbledon

Sheffield Wednesday duo Davis Keillor-Dunn and Callum Slattery have earned spots in the EFL Team of the Week.

Sheffield Wednesday duo Davis Keillor-Dunn and Callum Slattery earned places in the EFL’s Team of the Week after playing key roles in Saturday’s 5-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at Hillsborough.

The Owls ended a run of three consecutive League One draws with an emphatic victory over Johnnie Jackson’s side, inspired by two goals and an assist from Wrexham loanee Keillor-Dunn.

After setting up Barry Bannan’s opener, Keillor-Dunn scored his first league goal in Wednesday colours just seconds later, capitalising on a Wimbledon error on the halfway line before racing clear and calmly firing the ball past Josef Bursik.

The former Barnsley man, who is on loan at Hillsborough until January, scored his second and Wednesday’s fifth goal of the afternoon in the closing stages, slotting home a composed finish after being played in by Kieran Morrison in the left channel of the penalty area.

After making a positive impact as a substitute against Huddersfield Town at the Accu Stadium seven days earlier, Keillor-Dunn would have been hoping to make a similar impression on his return to the starting XI.

His recall to the starting line-up meant that Owls boss Henrik Pedersen had to deploy fellow summer signing Slattery on the right flank. However, it did not prevent Slattery from producing his best performance in several weeks and capping it off with a goal.

He scored Wednesday’s fourth goal of the game 11 minutes after half-time, connecting with an excellent cross from left-back Reece James to apply a first-time finish and claim his third goal of the season.

“Keillor-Dunn was another player to earn a perfect 10.00 rating after scoring twice and getting an assist for their opener in the same 5-0 win over AFC Wimbledon,” the EFL said after his WhoScored rating was the highest possible. “Starting on the right before drifting alongside Jamal Lowe, he caused problems wherever he popped up.

“The forward finished with seven shots, four key passes and two goals, while also contributing an assist.”

On Slattery, who earned a WhoScored rating of 9.17, the EFL added: “Slattery got on the scoresheet himself in Sheffield Wednesday's 5-0 demolition of AFC Wimbledon, finishing from close range after Reece James picked him out from the left to make it 4-0. The midfielder contributed more than just his goal, producing four key passes to help Wednesday maintain their attacking momentum.

“Three of his five crosses also found a teammate. He also made two interceptions and a tackle, won three aerial duels and finished the game with eight duels won overall.”

Keillor-Dunn and Slattery will be hoping to add to their respective goal tallies when the Owls take on Notts County at Meadow Lane on Tuesday night.
