Liam Palmer reaches new Sheffield Wednesday milestone as starting XI vs Coventry City confirmed
Sheffield Wednesday captain Liam Palmer is set to climb to outright third on the club’s all-time appearance list after being named in the starting XI for this lunchtime’s Championship clash with Coventry City.
Palmer, who was given the captain’s armband on a permanent basis following the exit of Barry Bannan in January, will make his 505th appearance for the Owls this lunchtime, overtaking Alan Finney.
Palmer drew level with Finney over the Easter weekend after starting the Good Friday defeat to Stoke City and the Easter Monday draw with Leicester City.
Only Andrew Wilson (546) and Jack Brown (507) have turned out on more occasions for Wednesday than Palmer.
The defender, who has featured in all but one of the Owls’ Championship fixtures this season, was taken off in the second half of the 1-1 stalemate with Leicester, sparking concerns he could face a spell on the sidelines through injury, but Henrik Pedersen later confirmed it was just a dead leg and that he was available for the trip to the Coventry Building Society Arena this lunchtime.
The skipper has been named in the starting XI and appears set to start at right-sided centre-back. Manager Henrik Pedersen has made one change for the clash with the Sky Blues, who can all but seal promotion with a victory this lunchtime, bringing in Sean Fusire in place of Dominic Iorfo, who has not been included in the matchday squad.
Fusire started the draw with Leicester on the bench, meaning he has sealed a recall and is in line to start at right wing-back.
Wednesday starting XI vs Coventry: Charles; Palmer, Otegbayo, M. Lowe; Fusire, Heskey, Chalobah, Ingelsson, Adaramola; Yates, J. Lowe.
Owls subs: Stretch, McGhee, Maltby, Nakamba, Thornton, Kobacki, McNeill, Granger, Moses.
