Barry Bannan shares Sheffield Wednesday prediction as he makes 'brilliant' Di'Shon Bernard admission

Sheffield Wednesday are continuing to get bodies back after being dealt a series of blows on the injury front so far this season.

Midfielder Barry Bannan is confident that Sheffield Wednesday will only get stronger as the season progresses, insisting that they still have key players to return from the treatment room.

Bannan made the admission after the Owls staged a dramatic comeback to draw 2-2 with Huddersfield Town at the Accu Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 2-0 heading into the closing stages, Wednesday were given a lifeline when Terriers defender Ibane Bowat headed Jaden Heskey’s cross into his own net with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Wednesday were then given an opportunity to snatch a point when Liam Cooper was caught inside the penalty area by a high foot from Marcus Harness. After initially signalling for a corner, referee Edward Duckworth eventually pointed to the penalty spot, giving Jamal Lowe the chance to earn the Owls a share of the spoils.

The Jamaican stepped up and made no mistake, sparking pandemonium in the away end and ensuring that Wednesday left West Yorkshire with their unbeaten away record intact.

The trip to Huddersfield saw Kieran Morrison and Harry Gray return to the starting line-up after recently being away on international duty. Meanwhile, Di’Shon Bernard started a league game for the first time since suffering a serious knee injury in February last year.

With those three offering Wednesday a lift, Bannan believes the Owls will only get stronger once the likes of Sil Swinkels, Max Lowe, Louie Barry and Ali Al-Hamadi return from injury issues that are currently keeping them sidelined.

“I think today is probably the first time Kieran and Harry have started in the same XI, maybe, in a league game,” Bannan told Wednesday’s YouTube channel. “Dish is back after 19 months, and I thought he was brilliant.

“I was really pleased for him. He came through the game unscathed, and I thought he was really good.

“You've got people like Dish coming back, the two young boys playing wide. We're still trying to find the right way of going [about things].

“In the meantime, it’s important that you pick up points and stay in and around it. We know that, once we get everybody back fit, we’ll have Louie, Max, Ali and Sil to come back. There are some top players who are still out for us.

“We know that when we get all of them back, as long as we’re in and around it, it’s going to be a really strong second half of the season.”
