Contract length disclosed as Sheffield Wednesday make ex-Southampton man Nathan Redmond latest signing
Sheffield Wednesday have strengthened their squad with the addition of one-cap England international Nathan Redmond.
The Owls were given dispensation by the EFL to bring in two free agent players following the improvement of their cashflow forecasts since the club was placed in administration. Defender Liam Cooper arrived last week and has already played twice for Wednesday.
As revealed by The Star earlier this month, the club brought Nathan Redmond and Duncan Watmore to Middlewood Road effectively as trialists vying for the second spot.
Time was taken to ensure the right decision was made and it has been announced that Redmond has won that race and arrives on a short-term deal until January. The 31-year-old has 276 Premier League appearances on his CV, in which he scored 28 goals and claimed 25 assists.
His form for Southampton in the 2016/17 season earned him a solitary England cap, though he has featured in a number of squads across his career. During six seasons at St Mary’s, Redmond scooped both the Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards. Having burst onto the scene with hometown club Birmingham City, Redmond has also represented Norwich City and Turkish giants Beşiktaş. The attacking player last played for promoted Burnley before his release in the summer.
