Sheffield Wednesday: More heartache for Kieran Lee and the latest on the comeback bid of Gary Hooper

Lee, who hasn't played since last December because of a hip complaint, broke down during his comeback game with the Owls' under-23 side last Monday.

He came off after quarter of an hour of the 2-1 win over Colchester United at Hillsborough because of a knee issue which will sideline him for the foreseeable future.

"Kieran felt something at the back of his knee," manager Jos Luhukay said. "He's had a scan. We must have patience. He will not be available to us in the next few weeks. 

"He was coming closer to the team and was going in a good direction. He's a positive person with a very good character. He is now very disappointed, and this is normal. It had taken him a lot of time to come back to where he was last week.

"He has been out now for almost a year. The medical team are supporting him every day. Everyone at the club will try to help him so he can come back again."

The news is better on striker Gary Hooper who also made his return in the Colchester clash after being out since Boxing Day with a hip problem of his own.

He played for the first half and is being lined up for more action when the U-23s head to Leeds United next week.

"It takes time," Luhukay said. "Gary was out for eight months and then played for 45 minutes last Monday. 

"Next Monday he will play for the U-23s for 65/70 minutes. The time when he can play 90 minutes for the first team is a little bit in the future. We have to have patience."
