MILAN Mandaric is ready to back Dave Jones if the Owls manager feels a need to make one last dip into the loan market.

The final deadline for emergency loans this season falls on March 28.

Chairman Mandaric said: “If needed, we’ll bring in another player. Dave is looking at his existing players, looking at what else is available.

“He is also starting to keep his eye on what he is going to do next season, as well.”

Mandaric says that stability is the watchword word, and the club have learned a lot from the struggle in the early stages of the season.

More recent attempts to improve the side, by boosting fiepower, saw the arrival of loan strikers Leroy Lita and Connor Wickham.

“We needed to score the goals; we brought in some players and we have done that,” added Mandaric.

“If we lose some players due to injuries or we need to improve I’m sure Dave will not hesitate to spend the money.”

Loans come at a cost whether it be just wages or loan fees in addition.

Wednesday’s course of action will depend partly on whether or not Sunderland agree to extend Wickham’s loan beyond the first month,

The initial deal, done earlier this month for 30 days, would make him available for the games against Forest on Saturday, Watford on Tuesday and Leicester a week on Saturday, to follow his appearances against Derby, Birmingham and Crystal Palace. The Owls also hope to extend the loan.

But the emergency-loan rules allow Sunderland to call him back after 28 days if they wish. If they did that, he would miss the Leicester match.

Lita cannot be recalled by Swansea as his loan is a half-season one completed during a transfer window.
