The Star revealed this evening that Wednesday are yet to make any contact with Joey Barton over the role, but that the ambitious former Fleetwood Town boss would be interested in speaking to the club.

Sources close to the former Manchester City midfielder, who took Town to the League One playoffs last season, is in no rush to jump straight back into management but would find the size and potential of the club an interesting prospect.

Giving it some Weiler?

One name that has been hanging around on the edges of the conversation has been the Swiss manager René Weiler, formerly of Belgian giants Anderlecht.

And Yorkshire Live today reported that he was in the Owls’ thinking when it came to the next man for the hotseat.

The 47-year-old was last at Egyptian side Al-Ahly.

Will Owls take the Mick?

Now here’s a more familiar name!

Mick McCarthy today jumped straight in amongst the periphery of the bookies’ favourites when it was announced that he had left APOEL Nicosia.
