The Owls were booed off by large sections of their 4,900 plus travelling fans after squandering a one-goal lead at Oakwell.

Debutant Josh Windass put Wednesday ahead in the 16th minute, lashing an unstoppable right foot shot beyond Brad Collins.

But the Owls' joy was short-lived when Cauley Woodrow equalised for the Reds after a calamitous Cameron Dawson mistake.

Alessio Da Cruz, Connor Wickham and Jacob Murphy missed chances after the break to secure Wednesday a much-needed victory.

The point leaves the Owls lying in 11th spot, trailing sixth-placed Preston North End by six points with 15 matches remaining in the promotion battle.

Asked if he could understand the fans' disappointment, Monk told The Star: "Yeah, of course. We all want to win.

"We put ourselves in a good position to win the game by going a goal up.

"We were disappointed to concede in the way we did because we had given ourselves a good foothold at that point.

"It (the equaliser) changed the course of the game a little bit."

Monk's side, who have won just one of their last eight league fixtures, return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to bottom club Luton Town.

"This is a big job, there's a lot of things that need to be corrected to move forward," stressed Monk.

"Everyone is frustrated, I'm frustrated we're in a patch where we're not coming out the right side of it.

"Every player is fighting for their future and you have to feel that at a football club. We're not going to give up, we'll stick together.

"You can see the league no one is running away with it. We have to make sure we give our all."

The Owls are optimistic left-back Morgan Fox and Massimo Luongo will shake off ankle and groin injuries respectively in time for the trip to Kenilworth Road.

But it remains unclear whether Moses Odubajo (hamstring) or Adam Reach (toe) will be available for selection.
