Sheffield Wednesday must improve their quality in the final third if they are to bounce back from defeat against Brentford when they take on Luton on Saturday.

That’s the take of wide man Kadeem Harris, who registered his first assist of the season as he set up Callum Paterson’s first Owls goal in the 2-1 defeat on Wednesday night.

Garry Monk’s side had much of the play in the second half but failed to create too much in the way of chances as the promotion hopeful Bees saw the game out with little fuss.

Speaking after the game a frustrated Harris admitted his side didn’t deserve to take a win. Luton will arrive at Hillsborough with nine points in midtable but having lost their previous two fixtures.

“I don’t think we were good enough as a collective to get the three points,” he said. “We had good spells but there was a little bit of something missing and we didn’t deserve the three points, but it happens. We’ve got to bounce back now and we’ve got a game in a few days.

“We could’ve given a little bit more. We lacked that cutting edge and that was the difference today.

“Games are coming thick and fast now. We’ve got to make it right on Saturday and I’m confident we can do that.”

Owls boss Garry Monk is keen to draw a line through the end of last season, though this week’s defeat extends a woeful run of home form to just one win in 16 at Hillsborough.

The Luton game presents an opportunity to put that right, with Wednesday this season having played two title favourites in Watford and Brentford either side of a crushing last-gasp draw against QPR.

Harris said he was delighted to get his first assist but admitted it feels insignificant in a defeat.

He said: “It’s something I want to do all season, get assists, and hopefully get some goals as well. It just doesn’t feel as good when you lose the game, so hopefully I can do the same on Saturday and we can get the three points.

On Paterson’s first Owls goal he added: “That’ll give him massive confidence, hopefully he can do the same thing and will keep doing so all season round.”
