While the Star understands that Wednesday are keen to extend the stay of their key loan players in order to finish the 2019/20 season as strongly as possible, it’s expected that all three involved parties – Wednesday, the mother club and the player – will need to be in agreement in order for that to happen.

SWFC manager, Garry Monk, told the media recently that none of his players issued any concerns about the rest of the season, suggesting that the players are willing to fight for their place until the current campaign is over, but there is also the opinions of Newcastle United, Hamburger SV, Wigan Athletic, Parma and Crystal Palace to take into account.

The financial aspect to be considered is that, if the loanees don’t extend until such time that the 2019/20 season ends, then their parent clubs will then have to pay their wages in full – something that they will be aware of given the current circumstances in the game.

One question mark, however, could be on Bates, who’s yet to make his Championship debut for SWFC, and may not be keen to extend his time at Hillsborough past the end of June.
