Sheffield Wednesday Press Conference: Team and transfer news ahead of PNE clash

Last updated: Friday, 29 January, 2021, 09:12

  • Sheffield Wednesday take on Preston at Hillsborough tomorrow
  • The Owls are six points from safety
  • Transfer deadline day is on Monday

According to Sky Sports, Sheffield Wednesday have spoken to David Webb about the potential of becoming the club’s new Sporting Director.

Webb has previously worked at the likes of Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Spurs - and is seemingly well regarded in the game.

We’re looking into it ourselves…

"That name popped up.." Neil Thompson given limited information on Owls transfer progress

Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Neil Thompson said he has been given limited information on the likelihood of incoming transfers at the club ahead of the closure of the transfer window on Monday evening.

It’s been tough for Izzy because he’s not had a lot of football. I’ve spoken to him at length about getting him in. We need more football in his legs, but he’s a talented boy and at the end of the day he has to be patient.

He’s there competing for a space, and there’s only a certain amount of places available.

NT on Harry Pickering?

That name’s popped up, and there will be one or two others as well.

NT on Hunt and possible exits

I’m not aware of anything, there’s been interest but we don’t have a massive squad. So I don’t think there will be a massive amount of outgoings.

Are the players affected by manager situation?

You’ll have to ask them… They’re experience pros, they’ve been in clubs, they know how it works. You have to run with it.

The game is changing, and you have to make sure you change with it. We had a different system the other night, but their right back kept getting out so we had to adjust. We might change again tomorrow.

NT on lifting spirits

With Everton, they had £200m on board, but we more than competed. The midweek game was disappointing, but we need to get back up for it.

NT on how big survival would be

It’d be massive… And I’m realist, and we have to get out of this bottom area. We know it won’t happen overnight, whether I’m in charge or not.

We have to get ourselves out. You do that with hard work and focus, and not getting too down when things go bad.
