Fletcher and Fox have been among the Owls’ top performers this season, but have now entered into the last month of their current contracts at Hillsborough and are said to have attracted interest from elsewhere.

It has been previously reported by The Star that SWFC were in contract talks with the striker and full back, and Monk has today reiterated his desire to have them on board for the 2020/21 Championship season.

Speaking to the media via Zoom, the SWFC manager said, "I have had conversations with them and they know very much I want them to stay…

“The club has been in talks with them. Of course, when this (Coronavirus pandemic) hit, we were in conversations with those two and we still are in conversations with them. My hope is that they will stay. We would like them to stay beyond this season and they know that.

"It will then be down the decisions of those players with the conversations they are having contractually with the club. I am hopeful. I want them to stay and the two of them know that.

"Hopefully there can be an agreement and an understanding of how the situation has changed with this pandemic and when it hit, and how that has changed a lot of the landscape across football.

"They know that I want them to stay and so do the club. Hopefully we can come to an agreement. We still have time for that and those conversations are ongoing.”

The uncertainty surrounding Wednesday’s case with the English Football League over the sale of Hillsborough will no doubt be playing a part in their contract discussions given the fact that their Championship status isn’t guaranteed, but the news of Joey Pelupessy’s extension will give hope for Wednesdayites that there are more to come.
