Dave Jones pledges that the Owls will not throw away their Championship status and says they are determined not to let fans down.

“We have worked so hard for this,” he said, confident of a safety-clinching win against Middlesbrough tomorrow in front of a 30,000-plus crowd.

“We’re not going to throw it away; the players won’t throw it away,” he added. “They’re up for the challenge; they know what’s expected of them.”

“It’s in our own hands and that’s all we have ever asked for.”

Jones is refusing to contemplate relegation: “We’re not even thinking about that; we’re thinking positively, like we have done all season.

“We’re in a better position than some clubs; they have to rely on others; we’re relying on ourselves. We just have to stay focused.”

The Owls boss says that the club have overcome the disappointment of the setback at Peterborough: “The mood was a bit down at the beginning of the week; that’s quite normal after a defeat.

“But there’s a good feeling about the place. They’re a good bunch of players. We don’t want to let anybody down.”
