Dave Jones is keen to see Jeremy Helan settled in what he believes is the ex-Manchester City speed merchant’s best position.

Helen’s switch to left back for substantial parts of the Owls’ last three games came more from necessity than the manager’s preference.

A return to the starting line-up for Reda Johnson would free Helan to concentrate less on defensive duties and more on the incisive attacking runs that can open up defences.

“We know that Jeremy needs to be one more place further forward,” Jones told The Star.

“When he is there, we can move the ball 30 or 40 yards up the pitch very quickly.”

Johnson will also have licence to make attacking forays and go up for set pieces - and that is when Helan will still have some defensive covering to do.

This happened at Leeds after Johnson went on as a sub and Helan reverted to left wing

The £300,000 summer signing was switched to full back during the Rotherham and Burnley games to replace Rafa Floro, and started in the position at Leeds.
