Sheffield Wednesday have an injury doubt over new loan defender Roger Johnson as manager Dave Jones pinned the blame for his team’s winless start to the season on an inconsistent defence.

Johnson was helped off the training pitch yesterday by the club’s medical staff clutching his shoulder after falling awkwardly while trying to score in a crossing and finishing exercise.

Jones is trying to find the right defensive formula to stop Wednesday conceding as they prepare to travel to Birmingham City tomorrow.

“We’re scoring. We’re not conceding, so scoring isn’t the problem,” he said.

“It doesn’t take a genius to work out where the problem is.

“I’m always thinking of changes to get us the right result. But we’re not that far away. We need a bit of luck, but then again you make your own luck.

“It’s the way you look at it. We haven’t lost in four games.

“It’s a tough division. We haven’t had the same back four together in all six games we’ve played.

“There’s a base there that we haven’t lost, but we need to get a win under out belts.”
