Today is a diary date for a few Sheffield Wednesday folk.

It’s the 34th birthday of chief executive Katrien Meire while goalkeeper Cameron Dawson turns 23.

Cameron Dawson.

Cameron Dawson.

It was also the birthday, back in 1924 of Matt ‘Laurie’ MacKenzie.

He signed for the Owls from Clydebank for the princely sum of £25 in March, 1946!

In truth he was better known for subsequently running a bakery shop in Middlewood Road (called Dora Websters.)

*Also on this day, in 2004, The Sun newspaper finally issued an apology to Liverpool fans over its infamous front-page story about the Hillsborough disaster.

The apology was not welcomed by many Anfield supporters; a poll on the club’s official website showed an 87% disapproval rate of the newspaper’s apology.
