Kieran McKenna makes honest Ipswich Town admission after Sheffield Wednesday win
Sheffield Wednesday were beaten 3-1 by Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna admitted his team needed their third goal to kill Sheffield Wednesday off following their 3-1 triumph at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.
Although they were far from sparkling in the first half, the Tractor Boys took a 1-0 lead into the interval after Cédric Kipré rose highest inside the penalty area to connect with Leif Davis’ corner.
After bombarding Wednesday’s goal with a wave of pressure following the restart, the Tractor Boys doubled their lead when Jaden Philogene finished off a rapid counter-attack.

However, out of nowhere, Wednesday got themselves on the scoresheet when Liam Cooper drilled home his first goal for the club, reacting quickest after a Barry Bannan free-kick wasn’t cleared.
The goal injected confidence into Wednesday veins and they went close to grabbing a leveller when Jamal Lowe so nearly found Gabriel Otegbayo at the back post.
That, though, was as close as Wednesday got to a leveller and they were punished late on when Jack Clarke pounced on some poor defending by Otegbayo to put the contest beyond doubt.
McKenna reflects on Ipswich triumph
"I think in the second-half for the most part I thought we played really well,” McKenna told the media.
"We created lots of chances and should have had more goals but of course there was still a spell there in the second half where we missed some big chances for the third goal and then we concede a big chance and then a goal straight after on a set play and then a game that you haven’t killed off is alive again.
"Although they didn’t have any chances after that, you can never be confident at 2-1 so I think everyone was happy to see the third goal go in and then again from there I think we could have scored quite a few more goals today.
"So yes, lots to take from the game to be honest. Of course we’re happy with the three points and lots to take from it."
