Sheffield Wednesday have been busy already this summer as Danny Rohl strengthens his squad.

Sheffield Wednesday are one of three Championship sides to have reportedly enquired about taking Myles Peart-Harris on loan from Brentford.

Danny Rohl’s summer rebuild at Hillsborough is intensifying as Wednesday look to build on last season’s dramatic second-tier survival bid, which was not confirmed until the 2-0 final day win at Sunderland. The German only recently returned from Euro 2024 punditry duty but has plenty to do before the 2024/25 campaign kicks off next month.

Finances are by no means infinite in South Yorkshire and so the Owls have primarily been looking at free transfers or low-cost options. And that has seemingly taken them into the loan market, with Football Insider reporting again on interest in Peart-Harris. The Star first reported that Wednesday has Peart-Harris on a list of potential targets last month.

Wednesday are thought to be keen on securing a season-long loan deal for the versatile 21-year-old, who joined Brentford from Chelsea in a £1.4million deal three years ago, but will face stiff competition from other Championship sides. Swansea City and Oxford United have also been named in the report, with all three desperate to cement their second-tier status and climb up the division.

After a handful of substitute appearances for Brentford during the first-half of last season, Peart-Harris joined Portsmouth on loan in January and featured 12 times for the League One side, his two goals helping John Mousinho’s side clinch the third-tier title and a place in the Championship. There is no mention of a return to Fratton Park but a step up is expected, and the player’s preference would be to re-join Pompey if they do come back in.

“For me it’s been a very, very good journey, I have learnt a lot, I have experienced a lot, and I’ve shown qualities at times,” he told The News of his Pompey loan spell back in May. “There are times when I’ve come out of the squad, but I’ve remained positive and got my chance again. I would love to come back, we’ll see what the summer holds, you never know in football.

“My first thought is to go back and get into Brentford’s team. If things don’t work out and I need to go on another loan, then definitely I’d like Pompey again. The Premier League is my aim and my target, yet Championship football is also important, so if things don’t work out then Pompey would be my first choice. I hope Brentford have seen what I am capable of, I’ve learned and become more experienced - and hopefully I will be in that team next year.”

Wednesday will therefore face a battle if they want to land Peart-Harris but have shown already this summer how decisive they can be. Those in charge of incomings at Hillsborough have been some of the busiest across the EFL, with six players already through the door permanently. Undisclosed fees were agreed for Yan Valery and Olaf Kobacki, who signed from Angers and Arka Gdynia respectively.

Alongside the pair, Wednesday have picked up four free agents in total, the most notable being Max Lowe from fierce rivals Sheffield United. Jamal Lowe and Ben Hamer have also moved domestically from Bournemouth and Watford, respectively, while Swedish midfielder Svante Ingelsson arrived from Hansa Rostock.
