Sheffield Wednesday in pole position as former Chelsea man weighs up his options

Charles Hagan may well have plenty of interest in him from elsewhere at present, but it’s thought that staying at Sheffield Wednesday is still his first choice.

Hagan will see his Owls contract expire at the end of this month, and while nothing has been agreed upon yet, The Star understands that talks are progressing well and that the young attacker is hoping to strike an agreement over his future.

With that in mind, Wednesday revealed that they were in negotiations with the former Chelsea youngster about extending his stay at Hillsborough, and The Star is led to believe that things have progressed well in the last couple of weeks as the teenager looks to try and finalise matters as soon as possible.

It has already been reported by this publication that Hagan has growing interest in him from across the English football pyramid, with Charlton Athletic, Stoke City and Brentford just a few of the names who are keeping a close eye on him.

However Wednesday, given his spell with the first team last season and the fact that he’s thought to be rated highly by Darren Moore, is likely to offer Hagan the best opportunity to pick up regular senior minutes next season – something that is a priority for the pacey winger as he seeks to take the next step in his career.

At this point in time there is nothing signed that guarantees Hagan’s place at Hillsborough next season, however the current state of play does suggest that sticking around – if terms can be agreed – is the player’s first choice option.

Wednesday are expected to lose Osaze Urhoghide after he recently rejected the club’s latest offer of a new contract, and the Owls will be eager to make sure that they don’t miss out on another young player that they’d been hoping to keep at the club.
