Yeovil’s ex-Hillsborough defender Richard Hinds is looking forward to a trip to Wembley after a memorable spell for him.
Hinds, an Owls fan born in Sheffield, is glad that Wednesday sealed their Championship safety and that another of his former clubs, Hull, booked their place in the Premier League.
Yeovil’s play-off win against Sheffield United has put the 32-year-old on course for the League One final against Brentford at Wembley a week on Sunday.
Hinds has charted his exciting end to the season with a series of posts on Twitter:
“Delighted for Sheff Wed...fantastic win and deserve their place in the Championship next season,” is his reaction to the 2-0 win against Middlesbrough.
“Massive congratulations to the mighty Tigers,” said Hinds of Hull’s feat. “Fantastic club. Great to see them back in the Premier League.”
Hinds felt that Yeovil’s fans were an influence on the semi-final second leg: “Amazing atmosphere. We were all inspired by a full ground going wild as we came out to warm up. Had a huge impact on the result.”
He also pointed to sportsmanship from the Blades and their supporters: “As a Wednesday fan it was great to beat Sheff United but full credit to the United players that came into our changing room.
“And the United supporters that stayed behind to wish us good luck at Wembley. It takes a lot and will always be remembered.”
There has also been banter between Hinds and his former Owls team-mate Mark Beevers, who played for Millwall in the FA Cup semi-final against Wigan.
Beevers told Hinds: “Congratulations mate..enjoy the day! Now you’ll be the ugliest player ever to set foot in the new Wembley.”
Hinds replied: “You will always be the ugliest player ever to play at Wembley. That title is safe.” His only disappointment was the relegation of his former club Scunthorpe to League Two.
