‘Baz’ was at his imperious best over the weekend as the Owls beat Burton Albion 4-2, grabbing a goal and an assist as they bounced back to winning ways following consecutive 1-1 draw that saw them drop disappointing points against Lincoln City and Bristol Rovers.

Now, with a couple of weeks before they’re back in league action, the 32-year-old says that it was important to set themselves up for cup action against Morecambe and Southampton.

Ahead of their FA Cup and Carabao Cup games, Bannan said, “The last two results had been disappointing, so we had to bounce back with a big performance and big result… It was all about the three points and it was important for us to get that with a two-week break from the league now.

“We have that positive of picking up three points and responding in the right way heading into two cup games now. We can now concentrate fully on the two cup games and know that when we come back we are in a position to attack.”

The Owls skipper also spoke about how pleasing it was to be amongst the goals himself again, as well as praising his teammates for the way that so many of his teammates are finding the back of the net this season.

Bannan said, “I missed an easy chance at Lincoln last week and then scored that one on Saturday so it’s strange! But we’ll take them however they come, the quality of the goals shows you the quality we have in the dressing room.

“We feel as though we are capable of scoring from anywhere really and everybody is chipping in which is a bonus.”

Wednesday have had 16 different goalscorers in all competitions so far this season, and with Moore expected to make changes this weekend there is a chance that that number could increase further should the Owls put in a performance on Friday night.

The Owls face the Shrimps at 7.45pm at S6.
