Wednesday boss Garry Monk confirmed the German had returned to training following a midweek defeat to West Brom that saw Moses Odubajo deputise in a back three.

There remains uncertainty over the fitness of club captain Tom Lees, though, who pulled out of contention late on and despite a clear scan on his hamstring may not be fit for the trip to Wales.

Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, Monk said the timescale of Lees' recovery will be dictated by him after he pulled up in training on Friday.

He said: “When we did the preparation on Tuesday we started and two minutes in he said he felt something in his hamstring, we scanned him straight away and there was nothing at all on the scan, that came back clear, so really we’re dictated by Tom and how he feels.

“Tom will decide when he can come back in, clinically there’s nothing on that scan at all, which is good, so really we’re dictated by Tom.

“We’ll see this morning when he comes in whether he’s able to train, there’s nothing clinical to rule him out of playing or training, he has a feeling in his hamstring but we have to be dictated about how he feels.

“We go by his symptoms. There’s nothing clinically wrong with him which is comfort to him.”

On fan favourite Börner, Monk reported good news and said: “He should be fully recovered and back. He’s in training today, he trained yesterday, so no problems and he should be available for the weekend.

“The other injuries that I mentioned, Josh (thigh) hopefully will be back at some point next week and then Osaze (knee) is going to be a little bit longer.

“We need to try to recover the players as much as we can, keep them as fresh as we can and go into each game with the best preparation we can possibly have.”
