Sheffield Wednesday youngster George Hirst started for England U19 in a surprise 1-0 defeat to their Czech Republic counterparts.

A second half goal from Lukáš Pfeifer handed the Czechs the win in Znojmo.

Hirst made his third appearance of the season for the U19s, despite having not featured for the Owls at any level so far this term.

England U19s are back in action in Slovakia for a friendly on Monday.

Hirst has been negotiating the terms of a new contract with Wednesday keen to tie him down to a long term deal.

It was hoped the contract would be agreed in time to send him out on loan this season but so far there has been little progress.

The 18-year-old was reportedly the subject of a £2million bid from Leicester City in the summer.

Fellow Wednesday striker Atdhe Nuhiu was a substitute for Kosovo in their World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.

Nuhiu came off the bench for the final 20 minutes as Kosovo slipped to a 2-0 defeat which guarantees they will finish bottom of Group I having picked up just one draw from nine qualifying games.

Nuhiu has made four substitute appearances for Wednesday so far this season.
