Sheffield Wednesday striker spotted back on the grass as his long-awaited return gets closer
Sheffield Wednesday striker, George Brown, could well be nearing a return to action after a lengthy injury lay-off.
The 19-year-old forward burst onto the scene earlier this season, grabbing a couple of goals against Portsmouth and Birmingham City back in September. One of those games was the last time that the Owls managed to claim three points.
An injury in October ruled him out for nine matches going into the end of the year, and he was dealt another blow in December when he sustained another problem after two substitute appearances back on the field.
Now, having sat out the last 17 matches, Brown looks to be drawing closer to a return to action in Wednesday colours, with the club posting images of him back on the grass in boots ahead of the game against Hull City this weekend.
How long it’ll be before he’s able to return to competitive action remains to be seen, but Henrik Pedersen will be eager to make sure that he’s not rushed back. They won’t want to take any risks at this stage.
The Dane said of Brown recently, “I hope he will train in the week after the national team break. He needs some training, of course, before he can start to be a part of the squad.”
This news follows the progress made by Max Lowe, who also recently returned to training, and the 28-year-old could get back into the side for the trip to Hull on Saturday, though he’s another who will probably be eased back in.
Meanwhile, the likes of Liam Cooper, Di’Shon Bernard and Ernie Weaver remain on the club’s injury list, though they aren’t believed to have picked up any fresh concerns in the defeat to Ipswich Town. Pedersen will be quizzed on availability in this week’s pre-match press conference.
