Out of favour Owls striker Gary Madine has joined Blackpool on loan for the rest of the season.
Madine could make his debut for Blackpool tonight against Middlesbrough.
He said: “As soon as I got the phone call and I heard Lee Clark was interested, I couldn’t say no really to my chance to play in The Championship again.
“I’ve been out on loan in League One and as every professional footballer will say, you play at the highest level you can.”
It is thought the bottom-of-the-table Seasiders tried to sign Madine, who has scored just once in 13 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday this season, on a permanent basis on transfer deadline day but a deal collapsed at the eleventh hour. The emergency loan window has re-opened today.
Gray has a plethora of attacking options, with Atdhe Nuhiu, Stevie May, Will Keane and Sergiu Bus all vying for a striking berth, meaning Madine is unlikely to get much game time. Indeed, he was left out of the match-day squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Cardiff City.
Gray confirmed yesterday that Wednesday were in talks with the Tangerines over the move. He said: “The two clubs are in discussion. I am willing to let Gary go on loan but a deal has not been done yet.”
It was just over a week ago Madine returned to Wednesday following a productive loan stint at Coventry City. The 24-year-old registered four goals in 13 outings for the Sky Blues.
