Striker Gary Hooper took a step closer to a Sheffield Wednesday first-team return today with a second outing on his comeback trail.

The centre-forward, out of action since Boxing Day because of a hip injury, played for more than an hour of the Owls Under-23s’ 2-2 draw at Leeds United.

It followed on from last week’s 45-minute appearance for the U-23 team last Monday in their 2-1 home triumph over Colchester United.

Wednesday led 2-1 at Leeds through an own goal and George Boyd before being pegged back.

Hooper last turned out for the senior side on December 26, in a 3-0 triumph at Nottingham Forest who happen to be the Owls’ Championship opponents at the City Ground on Wednesday night.
