Another friendly run-out confirmed as Sheffield Wednesday confirm local date

Sheffield Wednesday’s pre-season programme is taking shape.

A local friendly against non-league opposition forms the latest confirmation in Sheffield Wednesday’s preparations for the upcoming season.

The Owls will return to a properly structured summer programme, with a European trip booked in alongside the now-customary training camp at St George’s Park. Matches against West Brom and Preston North End will be played behind closed doors along the way. A public-facing double-friendly across the Pennines will take place on August 1, with a run-out at Accrington Stanley scheduled to kick off at 12:30pm before a clash at Oldham Athletic at 4pm.

Now, it has been confirmed that a Wednesday side will take to the field in a friendly open to supporters at the world’s oldest continually-used football ground, Hallam FC, on Tuesday July 14. Tickets will be priced at £10 per adult and £5 for concessions and can be purchased via the Owls website.

Like Wednesday, the Northern Premier League Division One East Countrymen are in something of a transitional summer, with joint first team managers Danny and Richard Patterson having been announced to take over from long-serving boss and sometime Wednesday employee Craig Denton.

The match is expected to see a mainly youthful Owls line-up, though some senior figures are expected to play a part as Henrik Pedersen’s side look to gel and gain vital match minutes ahead of their rebuild campaign in League One.
