Morgan Fox could be handed a first-team recall in the Owls’ crunch clash with Millwall on Tuesday night (7:45pm).
Under-fire head coach Carlos Carvalhal left Fox out of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Barnsley.
Daniel Pudil was preferred at left-back and Fox, who started the previous fixture at Derby County, lined up for Wednesday’s Under-23s against Nottingham Forest last Friday.
But Fox may return to action against the Lions if Pudil fails to shrug off a muscle injury he picked up in the second half versus Barnsley.
Carvalhal defended his decision to drop Fox in favour of Pudil.
He told The Star: “We felt it was a game for Daniel. He has been training well. He played with the Under-23s recently.
“Daniel is a player who is very dangerous in the last third. We felt there would be situations where he could do ruptures so we decided to pick him.”
Glenn Loovens will be pushing for a start, having served his one-match ban.
But it remains to be seen whether Almen Abdi will be involved. He has not featured in the last three matches since recovering from hip and abductor injuries.
“He is training,” said Carvalhal. “We have more than 18 players. Some of them won’t be in the 18.”
