Sheffield Wednesday: Fitness latest on Lee, Hooper, Winnall and Abdi

Sheffield Wednesday's missing quartet are all back in training, manager Jos Luhukay has confirmed.

Strikers Gary Hooper and Sam Winnall and midfield men Kieran Lee and Almen Abdi have been sidelined for months by injuries.

But all four are stepping up their comebacks for the Championship club before making their return in under-23s matches and, finally, for the first team.

"They are not ready yet to play minutes for us," Luhukay revealed. "All four are back in team training. Only Sam Winnall is not 100 per cent but he is making a very good progression."

Lee (hip), Hooper (hip) and Abdi (hamstring) are taking a full part in training while Winnall, who underwent surgery after damaging cruciate knee ligaments in February, is joining in at times and also working out individually under the guidance of the Owls' fitness staff.

They are being given extra sessions to help their recovery and were due to stay behind at Wednesday's Middlewood complex this afternoon for further work.

Luhukay said last week he expects to be active in the loan market before Friday's 5pm deadline, although six points in the last week with wins over Millwall and Ipswich Town has lessened the urgency for reinforcements.

"Today we cannot give a statement about something happening," Luhukay said. "When we have something, we will directly say.

"I look first at my team and what I see in the last two games gives me confidence. I have not spoken with one player. From opening day against Wigan Athletic to now, I have not spoken with one player.

"I am very happy. The progression of some of our young players gives me a good feeling. But you never know what will happen in the new few days. Maybe Ronaldo becomes available at Juventus and he gives us a call. Then I'd be stupid to say it's not possible that he comes to us!"
