DAVE Jones has sparked an internet debate among fans after saying that if supporters boo the team it can be counter-productive.

He believes that the club generally get “brilliant” support but understands any frustrations and shares Milan Mandaric’s belief in unity. “It will turn but everybody has to be in it together,” said Jones. “It’s not good having a go and booing them and everything else, because I have never known that to drive you on; it means they (the players) will get frightened on the ball.”

Some of the crowd booed at the end of the defeat by Leicester. Here is a selection of fans’ views on Twitter:

Robert Higgins ‏@bobohiggins said: “I would never boo players or the team, it’s counter productive. But I can see why some do it. It’s mass complaint.”

Hugh ‏@hugh_wragg: “Certainly no time to sack Jones. We need stability and continuity. Booing is counter-productive but all entitled to opinions.

Lee Hicklin ‏@KivoLee: “Booing is acceptable when the players aren’t putting the effort in. When they’re just not good enough, it’s down to the manager.”

Ryan Fitzgerald ‏@swfc4eva1867: “Fans have the right to voice their opinions, we are paying the players’ wages.”

Michael Fisher ‏@mickowl53: “The booing doesn’t help but the fans pay their hard earned money and we are sick of the excuses.”

James n - jimbob ‏@yeezy_jmz: “You pay money for a performance to be proud of. #swfc fans will be at S6 thru thick and thin but what else can they do?”

Paul Woodhouse ‏@Paul_Woodhouse1: “Never booed a player or the team in all the time i have watched #swfc, even if they have deserved it.. achieves nothing.”
