Before kick-off, defeat felt inevitable. Wednesdayites had long made peace with the fact that relegation was on the way, and that it was to happen in S2 was par for the course. There were no expectations as those supporters made their way down the road from Hillsborough.
Amongst those in the away end were Owls youngsters, Ernie Weaver and George Brown, and the away fan did their best to try and roar on their team after Charlie McNeill had got them back into it. It wasn’t to be, in the end, but the supporters did themselves proud once again.
