Sheffield Wednesday expecting defender Liam Cooper blow after latest Owls setback

Sheffield Wednesday could well be without defender, Liam Cooper, for a number of weeks based on original assessments of his injury.

The 34-year-old centre back has been a really solid signing for the Owls since coming on board as a free agent, however he was unable to complete the game against Preston North End as he limped off with a groin injury and headed straight down the tunnel.

Speaking immediately after the game, the Wednesday boss, Henrik Pedersen, admitted that things looked ‘not good’, although explained that they would still have to wait for scans to be done before the severity of the issue was known.

Now, with another Owls game on the horizon, The Star understands that early indications have suggested that Cooper could face four to six weeks on the sidelines as he recovers, news that – if confirmed - will come as a huge blow for the club amid a troubling period on the injury front.

Wednesday are back in action on Sunday afternoon as they take on Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, and it remains to be seen what sort of side Pedersen will be able to put out after what has been a hectic schedule in the Championship.

The Owls are hoping to bring some fresh faces into the club this month in order to bolster their ranks and protect their players that are currently running on empty, however that will only be able to be done under strict conditions.

And there will be no additions before travelling down to London, with no players expected back just yet to give the SWFC boss any new options. It’s a game that could also prove to be Harry Amass’ final appearance with his current loan move expiring after this fixture.
