While Sheffield Wednesday and the rest of English football waits for the green light to return to action, two Owls players will be back in action in a couple of days.

Versatile young Wednesday defender, Matt Penney, and his St. Pauli teammates will line up against FC Nürnberg on Sunday afternoon as they play their first game in over two months, with the left-sided player undoubtedly itching to get back out there as German football dips its toes back in the water.

Penney, 22, has played 12 2. Bundesliga games this season under former Owls boss, Jos Luhukay, and will be hoping to play his part in helping them climb up the table with three points.

Meanwhile, in the same division, 26-year-old Joost van Aken is likely to feature in his 21st league game of the season for VFL Osnabrück – also on Sunday – as they seek to bring to an end a seven-game winless streak in the German second tier when they go up against Julian Börner’s former club, Arminia Bielefeld.

Van Aken is unsure of his Wednesday future having fallen down the pecking order at Hillsborough prior to his loan move, so he’ll be hoping to end the season on a high in Germany so that he can go into whatever comes next in high spirits.

The Dutchman still has one year left on his contract at Wednesday but has admitted that he doesn’t know where he’ll be next season, while Penney will see his current deal in S6 come to an end next month and there has been no talk of a new contract being signed at this point in time.

St. Pauli and Osnabrück will both get things underway at 12h30 UK time on Sunday as the eyes of the world watch in anticipation as Germany becomes the first major footballing nation to return to the field of play.
