DONCASTER Rovers are understood to have approached the Owls about signing Gary Madine on loan.

Manager Brian Flynn hopes to land two players in time for Monday’s away game against Crawley.

Flynn has not named the men he is chasing but Madine is believed to be one of his top targets.

The Rovers boss did confirm that he is hoping to hear by teatime today whether his inquiries have been successful.

Wednesday manager Dave Jones said eight days ago that Madine was staying to fight for his place.

But since then Connor Wickham has been signed on loan and is likely to form an attacking spearhead with Leroy Lita.

Jones is also on record as saying that he must get players out in order to make way for others to come in.

Flynn has entered the loan market with striker Chris Brown ruled out for up to two months with knee ligament damage.

The Doncaster manager is also thought to have a central midfield player on his wanted list.

He said: “We’re awaiting return calls from a number of managers in regards to requests I’ve made. We’re in a wait-and-see situation.

“Because we’re without Browny, Iain Hume and David Syers, a forward is the number one area I’m looking at.

“I’d like to have two new players in by Crawley.” He added that deals would probably be for a month.

Madine was also at Rovers’ 0-0 home draw with MK Dons on Tuesday: Rob Jones and Tommy Spurr play for Doncaster, and the Dons squad includes four more of his former Owls team-mates, Jon Otsemobor, Darren Potter, on-loan Chris Lines, and Ryan Lowe. Like Wednesday, Rovers have no game tomorrow.

Madine has previously been linked with Swindon, Tranmere, Coventry and Millwall.
