Sheffield Wednesday transfer option cleared to prove Owls wrong in Doncaster Rovers clash
Sheffield Wednesday make the trip to Doncaster Rovers this weekend.
A summer transfer window option for Sheffield Wednesday is primed to face-off against the Owls this weekend in the colours of a South Yorkshire neighbour.
Tommi O’Reilly entered into advanced discussions with Wednesday in July over a potential loan switch from parent club Aston Villa, before both sides of the deal effectively agreed to move on. The young attacker started Doncaster Rovers’ first three matches of their League One campaign but has more recently been sidelined in a combination of injury and illness.
But he has been cleared to play this weekend’s clash at the Club Doncaster Sports Village, along with a handful of other important players.
Rovers boss Grant McCann told our sister paper the Free Press: “Tommy's a really, really good player, technically excellent, one v one he’s brilliant. It's pleasing to have him back, we want to keep him back now because he is a robust kid, he is, he played nearly every game last year for Crewe, so it's important we keep him back now and keep him fit.”
The home side should also welcome back two players McCann feels are as important as any counterpart in League One - which could prompt a formation shift. Full-backs Jamie Sterry and Jack Senior have both missed out on recent matches with knocks but are primed to re-join the Rovers line-up, which could see them shift from the three-at-the-back system they have employed over the last weeks.
McCann said: “Jamie Sterry and Jack Senior should be both available for Saturday, which is massive for us because, in my opinion, they're up there with the best in the division in their position. It's nice to see them two back on the training pitches all week,”
