It may be time to start talking about the Sheffield Wednesday striker who can't stop scoring
Sheffield Wednesday have a forward that can’t seem to stop scoring.
Young striker Devlan Moses has operated on the fringes of the Owls line-up in recent weeks and overcame a knock that seemed likely to keep him out of a maiden call-up for Northern Ireland’s under-21 side last week. On Wednesday evening he scored a classy third goal in their 3-0 win over their Latvian counterparts, lifting the ball smartly over the goalkeeper to seal three European Championship qualifier points in Riga.
With his contribution in substitute appearances at Championship level admittedly limited, Moses has been on a remarkable run of goalscoring form in youth football, enjoying a run of nine goals in four matches with Wednesday’s under-21 side leading into a 10-minute stint off the bench in their recent defeat to Ipswich Town. A knock sustained in that match kept him out of the squad that lost at Hull City last time out, though he has been selected on the bench ahead of more senior strikers in recent weeks.
With Jamal Lowe set to return late to camp following his involvement in Jamaica’s failed World Cup qualification play-off in Mexico, it could be that Moses stands a chance of increased opportunity heading towards the trip to Stoke City on Friday.
Another goal in the junior ranks will do his case for more minutes no harm. Owls boss Henrik Pedersen has spoken of the physical improvements needed from the 20-year-old as he continues his development into the requirements of senior football.
Speaking to The Star earlier this month following his Ipswich cameo, Pedersen said: “We have been speaking a lot with Dev about his fitness, about his number of accelerations, number of high-intensity meetings, number of sprints. He has to increase this a lot. And you also see today that there was a top centre-back he played against versus Ipswich. It's a difficult job against Ipswich.
“But you see that he needs those experiences today to get the sense that this is it, where I have to improve. And if I don't improve, then I'll not reach where I want. This is some good experience now, so he can grow from this.”
