A free transfer from Brentford, the move reunited Odubajo with Steve Bruce, his former boss at Hull City with whom he reached the Premier League at Wednesday’s expense in 2016.

Bruce left in a hurry of course and Odubajo could well have left the club already. The Star understands that the 26-year-old was told he was allowed to leave the club by Garry Monk in January.

It’s a stint at Hillsborough that is yet to get going, an admission he made himself on social media on Thursday evening.

But the current suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic serves as an opportunity for him to start again, he believes.

“Toughest season of my career to date mentally, things haven’t clicked the way I want them to,” he wrote.

“Fortunately, I’ve been using these unprecedented times to reflect, review and improve things that need working on. Can’t wait to be back with the team.”

Having been left out of the much-changed squad for January’s FA Cup win at Brighton in favour of teenage rookie Osaze Urhoghide, Odubajo has battled his way back into the side but was forced out again through injury in February.

“He’s been training hard and that’s your job as a professional footballer, to be ready,” Monk said.

“The door is never closed for anyone, your performances will dictate what your opportunities are and he’s done very well.”
