Sheffield Wednesday: Darren Moore reacts to action-packed draw with Portsmouth
and live on Freeview channel 276
Darren Moore and his side will be hoping to get off to a winning start on home turf – and make it 10 league games without defeat – as they welcome Danny Cowley’s Pompey to S6, but it won’t be an easy task against a side that are also keen to be part of the chasing pack in the new campaign.
A whole host of debuts are expected, some in the starting XI and some from the bench, as Wednesdayites make their way down Penistone Road for the first time this season, and expectations are high after a very positive summer at the club.
We’ll be here with you throughout the game giving you all of the updates as they happen, so stay tuned for team news, goals, and much more.
Sheffield Wednesday v Portsmouth - Football is back!
Key Events
- Wednesday are at home to Pompey
- The Owls had a fine record at home last season
- Lots of debuts are on the cards
A crazy afternoon
Wednesday were the better team for the bulk of the game, but some erratic defending means they have to settle for a draw. Not the best start - but not the worst either.
3-3 it ends
All over at Hillsborough as Wednesday’s new campaign gets off to a wild start. Six goals, one red card, points shared.
So close for Pompey
They have a strike rifled at goal that takes a wicked deflection, but it’s seemingly off their own player and out of play.
Gregory sent off
A second bookable offence for the Wednesday striker, and Wednesday will finish the afternoon with 10 men.
What a hit!
Dele-Bashiru absolutely belts one into the top corner... It’s been coming, and he made absolutely no mistake there. What a thump.
Two chances again!
Ihiekwe first has a header cleared off the line, and then Bannan volleys towards goal only to see it blocked out for a corner. Wednesday have had the chances today, there’s no doubt about that.
