Sheffield Wednesday contracts and agents - Dejphon Chansiri discusses as several key players enter into their last six months at Hillsborough

The likes of Barry Bannan, Adam Reach, Tom Lees, Keiren Westwood and several others will see their contracts expire come the end of June, and there are plenty of questions regarding who will and won’t be part of the squad for the 2021/22 season.

Tony Pulis, prior to his exit, confirmed that Bannan, Reach and Lees had all been offered new contracts, while The Star reported that they were keen to tie down young midfielder, Liam Shaw, to a new deal.

Wednesday will be keen to make sure that they don’t risk losing more valuable assets for free come the end of the campaign, and Chansiri said that they’re still trying to sort things out, even without a permanent manager, adding his opinion that agents don’t make it easy for the club.

Speaking to The Star, Chansiri explained, “We’ve started talking about extending contracts a while ago anyway, it’s not about the new manager - because we always say they need to fit our philosophy. So it’s not about that.”

But have any of those offered new deals put pen to paper?

“Not yet,” he explained. “You know agents try to make it difficult all the time. It’s not easy.

“I know people say we wait until the last day, but it’s out of our control, unless nobody wants them - then you can bring immediately.

“If many clubs want them, then they’ll let you wait until the last minute. It’s normal in the last minute, and that’s the same when you want to extend.

“If a player thinks they’re big enough or too important, then the agent or player will play games - this is football.”

Eight of the players who featured in the 1-0 win over Derby County over the weekend will be out of contract come July 1st, and the club will be desperate to finalise some of their futures before they’re tempted elsewhere as free agents.
