Almere-born Da Cruz, who can be deployed on the wing or up front, has spent the first half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Ascoli. The 23-year-old notched six goals and weighed in with six assists in 18 matches in all competitions for the Serie B side.

Da Cruz, primarily a right footed player, came through the ranks at Ajax but was let go in 2010. He joined Almere City after three years, then FC Twente the following season.

He has also enjoyed sints at FC Dordrecht (loan) , Novara and Spezia (loan).

It is believed Arsenal and Liverpool tracked Da Cruz during his impressive spell at Novara in December 2017.

Barring any late hitches, Da Cruz is poised to become Wednesday's second signing of the January transfer window, following in the footsteps of Argentine winger Manuel Hidalgo.

Da Cruz could be unveiled as a Wednesday player tomorrow.

The Owls are looking to further strengthen their attacking options before Friday's transfer deadline. Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham, who has previously enjoyed two loan stints at Hillsborough, is on their radar but sources in South Wales say Cardiff City are also big admirers of the player.
